Goats! to Work for Metro Parks (21. July 2006, 07:27 by Derek Young) ~ Clearing Weeds The Fun Way

Now this is some Summer Fun. Metro Parks will be using 280 goats to clear Tacoma’s Blueberry Park of weeds and invasive plants on Saturday. Herding dogs will be onsite to keep everything in order. Can anybody get a few photos? (via Spew)

I expect this is in prep for the Bluegrass in the Blueberries the following weekend.

They should rent out the goats for residential lawn keeping… kind to think of it, I’ve been looking for some goats to milk to make some homemade cheese, mmmmmmm…..

Goats are great. They chow down anything and everything and can clear even rugged hillsides of the nastiest brush. BUT remember, what goes in must come out. Seeds from yesterday’s Gourmet Greens and Weeds will be coming out the other end today in the fertilizer pellets being expelled and may grow even more prolific in next year’s more fertile soil. I think I’ll pass on borrowing them for a day to mow my yard.

I like Morgan’s idea. If MetroParks can make money, even double dipping, they’ll go for it. We’ve likely already paid for these goats as part of the Parks Bond. But I’ll put up another $5 out of pocket to have Edelheid munch my dandelions and grass for a few hours.

Whoo-hooo. Goats arrived 5pm Sunday. Quite the hungry buggers. Got to work as soon as they got off the trailer.
