10 Years of Washington State History (26. July 2006, 14:09 by Derek Young) ~ Celebrating Our Successes. Looking Toward The Future

Can you believe it’s been ten years? 2006 marks the tenth anniversary of the Washington State History Museum – one of the early successes of Tacoma’s urban renewal. To celebrate, the museum will be hosting festivities on August 9th and 10th (Wednesday and Thursday? Why?). You can check out the event website for Thursday’s public celebration and the ongoing exhibition that’ll open to coincide with the event. Of particular interest to us is Wednesday’s symposium on the urban revitalization of downtown Tacoma. Here are the details:

Urban Revitalization in Downtown Tacoma
Wednesday, August 9, 2006
10:00am-4:00pm
The museum hosts a free symposium for members and the general public. The morning session focuses on our neighborhood’s past and its significant growth over the past decade. The afternoon session invites participants to look toward the future and imagine the possibilities for growth and change here in the coming years. Join museum staff, architect Arthur Andersson, and others who have been key to the museum’s success for an informative and adventurous day of discussion. For more information or to register, please call 253/798-5890.

Now that could be fun. Hmmm… what’s on my calendar?

A exhibit and a series of drawings and photographs showing Tacoma’s efforts to revitalize would be nice.

We could set it out for visitors to show which efforts have worked and which ones have failed.

Too bad its on a weekday.
