Congratulations 2014 New Tacoma Award Winners!

At a luncheon today the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber celebrated the winners of its 2014 New Tacoma Awards.

The Ghilarducci Award recognizing successful new development, renovation or beautification went to Foss Waterway Seaport’s Rehabilitation - The Seaport has transformed the historic Balfour Dock Building, and become an active anchor of the revitalization of the Foss Waterway.

The Popham Award recognizing the individual that has done the most to build community spirit went to Justin Mayfield of Downtown Block Party - Justin brings enthusiasm and innovative ideas to the many community events he has been involved in.

The Public Places Award recognizing the best activation of a public park, open space or right-of-way went to Downtown On the Go’s Walk Tacoma - The Walk Tacoma series of free walks around downtown Tacoma has grown over the years, bringing hundreds out to explore the streets, history, art, architecture and culture of downtown Tacoma.

The Schoenfeld Award recognizing exemplary performance and pizazz as a retailer or restaurateur went to Tinkertopia - This unique retail space from RR and Darcy Anderson gives tinkerers, creators, and artists of all ages a reason to stop by on a regular basis to see what's new.

The Union Station Award recognizing organizations, companies or individuals that have built or sustained momentum for revitalization went to Children’s Museum of Tacoma - The Children's Museum's decision to remain downtown has kept the corner of 15th and Pacific vital and active, bringing children and parents to the area with creative programming and an innovative "pay-as-you-will" model.
