Increased Narrows Bridge Toll Rate Planned

Toll rates on the Narrows Bridge are scheduled to increase by another 25 cents this July, pending the review of updated traffic and revenue data by WSDOT's nine-member Citizen Advisory Committee.

The committee will make its recommendations to the State Transportation Commission in March, but between now and then they will hold a series of workshops on the issue. Those workshops are open to the public, and will include the opportunity to comment on the proposed toll increase. You can also comment online or by snail mail. (For details on workshops and comment options, view the press release here.)

The Narrows Bridge project was funded by bonds, which are now being repaid through gradually increasing tolls. Rates are currently set at $4.25 for a regular vehicle with a Good to Go! pass, and $5.25 for vehicles without the GtG pass. Some, including Gig Harbor Representative Larry Seaquist, have suggested going the other way, and at least temporarily capping the toll increase, and even a possible roll back of the toll to the 2012 level of $4 with the pass.
