Metro Parks Holiday Cruise

December 7, 2013 at 11:00 am

Volunteers needed to assist with this annual event, which promises to be fun for all involved, Local boat owners take groups of specialized recreation participants around the waterway; everyone lands at the Working Waterfront Museum for food and dancing.

No experience is required. Volunteers may accompany participants on boat trips, assist in putting on life jackets, help with registration, and help arrange the facility for the food and dancing. Volunteers will need to register in advance by contacting Heather Waddington hearherw@tacomaparks.com. Volunteers will receive an orientation session the morning of the 7th.

Metro Parks Specialized Recreation has been providing recreational programming, including outings, dances and parties, and a full range of Special Olympics sports for people with intellectual disabilities for over 60 years. Last year over 20 boat owners hosted over 200 participants. Everyone is looking forward to a good time this year.

Volunteers are essential and welcome partners in these activities. Research has demonstrated that these activities enhance the physical fitness of participants, develop their capacity for employment, and contribute to their overall well-being.

These activities also reflect our community’s commitment to serving all of our residents. And they are a lot of fun!
