Next Steps Towards a $15 Minimum Wage

January 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm

Kshama Sawant‘s recent election to the Seattle City Council is an historic victory for working people and youth around the country and internationally. Join Sawant’s organization, Socialist Alternative, in an open discussion about what the election victory means for the left and the fight for a $15 an hour minimum wage.

Kshama Sawant was able to connect the everyday demands of workers and youth to the larger struggle for an independent political voice in a campaign which enabled the first victory of a socialist in a major US city for the first time in decades. This victory shows the huge potential and need for the left to run candidates independent of the two parties, as well as the need to build these movements on the streets.
