Pac the Ave

The City of Tacoma, Downtown Merchants Group and Downtown Business Improvement Area are inviting the community to view the Pacific Avenue Streetscape improvements and celebrate the completion of the project at “Pac the Ave” on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. Pacific Avenue will come alive at the enhanced 8th Street cobble-style intersection under the new canopy of overhead lights between 7th and 9th streets with live music, arts performances, free hot chocolate and kettle corn and a host of activities for the entire family.

The Rescue Mission will be accepting donations of unwrapped toys, blankets and towels for a free picture with Santa. Other event highlights include a visit from Environmental Services’ clean surface water mascot Scoopy Doo who will pass out green candy canes and a historic walking tour at 4 p.m. led by Downtown on the Go.

The project’s “green flash” theme will carry throughout the event as a nod to the environmental ethic demonstrated by this project’s rain gardens and innovative treatment of stormwater. The “Pac the Ave” event is designed to kick-off the holiday season by reintroducing residents to the new Pacific Avenue – all the new public improvements and all the businesses located along the corridor.

To encourage this effort, a special Pac Ave Passport program will be held throughout the holiday season to foster visits to businesses. Passports may be obtained at the Pac the Ave event or from participating businesses after Dec. 5th. The program will run through Dec. 31 and participants will be entered in a drawing to win one of many great prizes. Learn more at the Pacific Avenue Streetscape Project web page.
