Pinwheel coming to 6th Ave

Flyers on the door of 2602 6th Ave. (6th & Fife, former Ezell's location) announce that Pinwheel Catering will be moving their Sumner Garden Cafe, arriving in Tacoma as Pinwheel Catering's Herban Cafe, in December.

"After four years of waiting for you to come to our Garden Cafe located in lovely Sumner, Washington, we have decided to move our cafe to Tacoma!"

They'll be doing a lunch & dinner business. They invite us to follow their progress at http://www.pinwheelcatering.com -- where I note the only hint of the change is the announcement that the Sumner location/business is for sale.

It'll be great to see a business open there again.

All right! The more the merrier!

What's up with the old dry cleaners up the street from here towards Jason Lee? The for lease sign was taken down and it looks like they are remodeling the space. Anyone?

Re: Pinwheel coming to 6th Ave

Pinwheel is now open. Sunday afternoon we were there for
* an excellent Reuben sandwich
* a generous slice of quiche (could've been warmer)
* eggs benedict & cottage potatoes
* cassoulet (I had that; very good!)

Good food, good tea, good Dillano's coffee. Not enough patrons, yet.

6th & Fife, across 6th from Gateway to India.

Re: Pinwheel coming to 6th Ave

I stopped in on Sunday to say hello and welcome to the neighborhood.  One of the owners, the husband, is very friendly and we had a nice chat.  But the best news is they will be having Sunday brunch starting this coming Sunday!  I don't remember what all he said was on the menu, but it did involve waffles and quiche.  I am so ready for a break from Shakabrah and the rest of T-town's one size fits all brunch.  I believe they'll open at 8am.

I went today for lunch and it was very good.  They are definitely wanting some more patrons, and wanted to spread the word that they're taking reservations for Valentine's Day.

What are their hours? Do they do breakfast on Saturday?

This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
I tried their Ham & Brie sandwich. With the caramelized shallots... perfection! Best of all they have home made pies and other desserts. I can't wait to try them!

Re: Pinwheel coming to 6th Ave

My friend and I tried to go yesterday for breakfast at 9, since they had told us they'd open at 8.  No go- no one was coming, so they changed it to 10 on Sundays. Not sure why they didn't wait a few more weeks before making the decision to move to 10.  We went to Shakabrah, and it was packed at 9.  I am no marketer, but it seems like a sandwich board outside would draw some customers who are headed to Starbucks or Shakabrah.  Still haven't eaten there, sigh.

Re: Pinwheel coming to 6th Ave

We did not stay open at 8:00 because we can't afford to right now, if the population demands it we will reconsider! We may even consider a Saturday Brunch as well. It takes a while to figure out the market. We switched up the buffet as well, come back and tell us what you think. Oh! also new is happy hour 1/2 price wine & apps 3:30 - 6:00 everyday. (except Sunday) Got a sign, ssandwich board & awning work is supposed to be completed on Monday.

Re: Pinwheel coming to 6th Ave

Last week, I enjoyed a lovely late evening bowl of bison chili, glass of wine, and piece of carrot cake at the Herban. Nice casual atmosphere, plenty of tempting wines by the glass, and excellent service. I'll be back, earlier next time, so I can try out the new happy hour!

Re: Pinwheel coming to 6th Ave

Pedestrian Discount?  Is that an honor thing?  I'm only ~4 blocks away.  We have gone a couple of times, walked of course.  No complaints on food or service.
