Applications Now Being Accepted for District 1 Position on Tacoma City Council
The City Clerk’s Office is now accepting applications to fill the Tacoma City Council's District 1 position. District 1 generally represents the north and west ends of Tacoma. Qualified applicants must be eligible to vote, be a resident of Tacoma for two years immediately preceding the time of appointment, and a District 1 resident for one year immediately preceding the time of filing for City Council.
Candidates will be interviewed on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at noon during the City Council study session which will be held in the Council Chambers on the first floor of the Tacoma Municipal Building (747 Market St.).
City Council is responsible for enacting all legislation, developing policies and making general decisions for governing the City organization. Council is charged with adopting and amending City laws, approving the biennial budget, establishing City policies and standards, approving contracts and agreements, and representing the City in the community. Council meetings are held every Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the first floor of the Tacoma Municipal Building. In addition, study sessions are held every Tuesday at noon in Tacoma Municipal Building North (733 Market St., Room 16). Council committees meet in accordance with a set schedule Monday - Thursday in various rooms within the Tacoma Municipal Building.
Effective Jan. 1, 2014, Council Members will receive an annual salary of $42,411.20.
