Apartments serving homeless veterans proposed for East Side Tacoma transit center

A new project proposed by a regional nonprofit would bring together services and housing for veterans in a transit-oriented development on Tacoma's Eastside.

Last week Pierce Transit announced that it had received the unsolicited proposal for its transit center at 72nd and M from Multi-Service Center, a nonprofit that provides services to address poverty and homelessness. This week the Daily Index has more detail on the proposed project, which would provide 52 one-, two-, and three-bedroom units of affordable rental housing to homeless veterans and their families, alongside other support services, and would include a kiosk serving coffee and light food.

According to the Index, if the proposal is accepted by the transit agency, construction on the L-shaped development could begin next fall, and be ready for occupancy by the end of 2017.

Sounds like an interesting proposal. Now, how about something for that property next to the Tacoma Dome transit hub?

Just wondering about the status of this project. Do you have any updates?  Thanks!
