One Poet’s Vision To Celebrate The Beauty — And The Warts — Of Tacoma

Tacoma's Poet Laureate, Lucas Smiraldo, wants to hear your poetry, and to share it with others. Smiraldo is collecting poetry by Tacomans about Tacoma for his new Laureate Listening Project, funded by a Greater Tacoma Community Foundation Spark Grant.

He will record Tacomans reading their poetry, and share it on a new website that will locate each poem on a map. He's not looking for experienced poets, but he is looking for meaningful content.

“... I’m not looking for polish,” he said. “I am looking for substance, but I’m not looking for polish.”

We're used to poets laureate telling the story of a place with their own words. Sharing the voices of others is a more inclusive take on the task.
