Oreos, radio, and saving the cat: an interview with Ira Glass

We're huge This American Life fans. And we're not the only ones. Rachel Ervin over at Post Defiance shares her recent experience interviewing TAL producer Ira Glass, who she describes as having "profound impact" on her life.

Every week on NPR Ira Glass tells a story through interviews with other people. It's not every week that a Tacoma writer gets to tell the story of interviewing Ira Glass. We're glad she did.

There's a lot about Glass' perspective on the radio and interviewing business, but some of our favorite bits come when he talks about his sense of place - like this bit about New York:

New York is fine. But it’s harder to do a ‘man on the street’ interview with someone with it sounding like New York City... I don’t feel like I live in America anymore now that I live in New York. Like, I don’t drive a car. Not driving a car makes you not an American.

Oh, and the part where he asks if we'll be offended if he talks about Seattle when he visits Tacoma for his May 4th Broadway Center show...

You know, like will people beat me up if I try to play clips of Dan Savage?
