Tacoma veteran is revved up for State of the Union

Tacoman Steve Buchanan will be at President Obama's State of the Union speech tonight.

Buchanan is a 37 year old veteran and father of two, law school grad, UWT MBA, and frequent attendee at 1 Million Cups - Tacoma, but what got him the VIP invite to sit in the gallery of the U.S. House of Representatives tonight as Representative Kilmer's guest is a company he started right here in Tacoma.

Buchanan started his company, ChooseVets, as an online marketplace to match veterans looking for work with clients looking for reliable help. The company took off during his time at UW Tacoma's Veterans Incubator for Better Entrepreneurship, where he and other veterans get support and mentoring to develop their entrepreneurial ideas. The website launched on Veteran's Day and momentum is growing rapidly. Buchanan's visit to DC for the State of the Union is a big honor for Buchanan and his team at ChooseVets, and for the good work going on down at the VIBE Center. Congratulations, everyone. We'll be watching.

Full disclosure: Our Derek is an occasional advisor to ChooseVets and the VIBE Center.
