City of Tacoma’s Information Technology Department Launches TacomaSafe.Org

-- Web Application Offers Improvements in Reporting of Non-Violent Crimes --
As part of efforts to continually improve community access to City of Tacoma services, TacomaSafe.Org – a web application developed by the Information Technology Department in collaboration with the Tacoma Police Department and South Sound 911 – securely draws information from community members regarding non-violent crimes into a centralized police enforcement database. It also provides community members with the ability to save and later revisit the information they have entered, and receive automated status updates.
“TacomaSafe.Org represents another important step in the right direction and we’re grateful to Council Member Marty Campbell and Council Member Joe Lonergan for bringing this forward,” said Information Technology Director Jack Kelanic, who worked with the TacomaFIRST 311 Customer Support Center on last year’s launch of the TacomaFIRST 311 mobile app for Android and Apple devices. “With this new application, community members can now more easily file reports from any computer, any tablet and any mobile device, while experiencing a better, streamlined interface that is compatible with common browsers.”
“Public safety continues to be a top priority for the City of Tacoma,” said Police Chief Don Ramsdell. “We want to make sure our community continues to be a great place to live, work and play, and what TacomaSafe.Org represents is our ongoing commitment to prioritize simple, efficient and effective access to City services.”
TacomaSafe.Org can be used to report incidences of theft (including theft from a vehicle), lost property, vandalism or destruction of property.
TacomaSafe.Org cannot be used to report any type of crime in progress, violent crimes, lost or stolen guns or vehicles, or vehicle accidents. To report crimes in progress, violent crimes, lost or stolen guns or vehicles, community members are asked to dial 911.
Code compliance issues should continue to be reported using the TacomaFIRST 311 online resources area of the website, theTacomaFIRST 311 mobile app for Android and Apple devices, or by dialing 311 within Tacoma city limits.
