Week-long SR 7 ramp closure to I-5 in Tacoma begins Oct. 20

Motorists who take State Route 7 and Interstate 705 to I-5 in Tacoma will encounter multiple ramp closures the week of Oct. 20 as crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation continue work on the I-5 - M Street to Portland Avenue – HOV project.
Starting at 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, crews will close the northbound State Route 7 on-ramp to southbound Interstate 5. The ramp will close around the clock until 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.
In addition, beginning at 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Oct. 20-23, crews will close the southbound Interstate 705 on-ramp to southbound I-5. The on-ramp will reopen at 6 a.m. the following day.
The southbound Interstate 5 exit to State Route 7 remains closed around the clock until mid-November. A signed detour directs motorists to SR 7 via Interstate 705 and State Route 509. Meanwhile, the A Street on-ramp to northbound I- 705/I- 5 is closed until December. A signed detour also is in place for motorists.
During the week of Oct. 20, nighttime drivers will also find overnight triple-lane closures during overnight hours on southbound I-5 from M Street to Portland Avenue. All lanes will reopen at 4 a.m. each following day.
